Concerns of the Obidient Family in Edo State

It has come to our attention that Barrister Olumide Apata and the dissolved executives of the Edo State Labour Party recently visited His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi. This development, coupled with the plan for Mr. Obi to visit Edo State to flag off a campaign for Barrister Olumide Apata, is causing significant concern among the Obidient family in Edo State.

Our apprehension stems from our unwavering support for Mr. Obi during the 2023 general election, which was grounded in his firm stance against undue influence on political delegates. Mr. Obi earned his presidential ticket from the Labour Party based on merit, integrity, and accountability, without resorting to monetizing or influencing the delegates.

We have previously distanced ourselves from the Labour Party’s candidate in the recent primary election due to the dollarization and inducement of delegates, which compromised the process. Our support for Mr. Obi was based on his principles of transparency and ethical conduct, which seem at odds with the actions surrounding the current campaign.

Mr. Peter Obi’s potential involvement in the campaign raises serious questions about his integrity. It would suggest a departure from the values he espoused, values that inspired our support. Additionally, Mr. Obi’s association with the dissolved executives of the Labour Party appears to undermine the authority of the party’s national working committee, further complicating our trust in his leadership.

We want to express our deep concern and disappointment. If Mr. Peter Obi proceeds to campaign for the Labour Party candidate in Edo State or fails to distance himself from the dissolved executives, we, the Obidient family, will find it difficult to continue our support. Such actions would signal a contradiction to the principles of transparency and accountability that he has championed.

We urge Mr. Obi to reconsider his stance and demonstrate the leadership qualities that earned our trust and support. Our commitment to these principles remains steadfast, and we hope to see the same from Mr. Obi.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Comrade Ikhuenbor Felix Igbinevbo aka Mr. Figo,
On behalf of the Concerned Obidient Family in Edo State
