“Ahmed Musa: One of Governor Okpebholo’s best appointments”

An Oxford and Cambridge University-trained entrepreneurship, leadership and sustainability expert has commended the appointment of Hon. Ahmed Musa Momoh as the CEO/Executive Director of the Edo State Flood, Erosion, and Watershed Management Agency (FEWMA).

Momoh whose choice was described, “as one of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s most strategic decisions”, was commended by Mr. John Mayaki while expressing confidence in “his ability, capacity and integrity to tackle the state’s pressing flooding and erosion challenges”.

Responding to a recent video showing Hon. Muda inspecting erosion affected areas in Benin city, Mayaki said, “I know Ahmed Musa Momoh as a workaholic, a goal-getter, and someone who instinctively knows what needs to be done. He is a patriotic and a dependable ally, if you assign him a task, you can rest assured it will be executed to perfection.”

Mayaki recalled on his previous assignment where Hon. Musa was also an arrowhead, during the 2020 governorship election campaign for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, describing him as a passionate and dedicated individual who always delivers on assignments.

His words, “Ahmed Musa is an ardent supporter of the causes he believes in and an honest person who speaks the truth no matter the circumstances. I am confident he will bring these qualities to bear in his new role.”

On the critical importance of FEWMA’s assignment under Hon. Momoh’s watch, especially as Edo state grapples with increasing floods, gully erosion, and environmental degradation, Mayaki called for immediate interventions in the current dry season to prepare the state for the rainy months ahead.

His words, “The menace of flood and erosion requires urgent attention,” he stated. Continuing, he said, “This government must invest time and resources to address these challenges. Clearing blocked drainage systems, raising awareness on proper waste disposal, and enforcing building regulations to prevent encroachment on waterways are some of the key areas that I consider as low hanging fruits.

“I think this government also needs innovative waste management solutions to address the growing problem of plastic and aluminum can litter, which obstructs drainage systems and exacerbates flooding. Government can do a lot with public education campaigns and stricter enforcement of environmental laws that could help mitigate these issues”.

While commending Hon. Musa’s proactive approach, Mayaki said, “his swift action in visiting erosion-affected areas and assessing the severity of the problem on the ground is commendable. Ahmed Musa isn’t waiting for prompts, no. Ahmed Musa is already in action. His on-site assessments show his commitment to understanding and addressing the dire environmental challenges facing our state,”

He regretted saying that many of the state’s flooding and erosion issues are man-made, resulting from years of neglect and poor environmental practices.

His words, “Challenges like gully erosion, indiscriminate construction on waterways, and waste dumping have compounded our problems. Drains have not been cleared for years, leading to pathetic situations during the rainy season. This is the time to act, and I have no doubt Hon. Musa will rise to the occasion.

“I am optimistic about his ability to deliver results. I mean results that will justify his appointment. With his dedication, and commitment, he will make us proud. I am confident he will lead FEWMA to provide value for money and service delivery that would positively impact our state”.
