Afegbua’s Legendary Inconsistencies: A Response to Kassim Afegbua’s Recital of Governor Obaseki’s Sins

Dr (Mrs) Odegua Isaberu

Kassim Afegbua’s article on Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration is a whirlwind of contradictions and selective amnesia. Let’s unpack the inconsistencies and expose the motives behind his narrative.

Afegbua’s inconsistent stance on Obaseki is glaring. He once defended Obaseki, yet now vehemently attacks him. This flip-flopping raises questions about his integrity and the authenticity of his criticism. His shift seems more politically motivated than rooted in genuine concern for Edo State’s development.

During the party primaries, Afegbua attacked Senator Monday Okpebholo as thoroughly incompetent, yet now he defends him albeit lazily but spiritedly. This about-face highlights Afegbua’s opportunistic tendencies. It appears that Afegbua’s loyalties shift according to political expediency rather than principle.

Afegbua’s role as a media backer for Ibrahim Babangida, despite IBB’s anti-democratic record, further taints his credibility. Supporting such a figure while criticizing Obaseki for alleged undemocratic actions is hypocritical. Afegbua’s history shows a pattern of aligning with whoever serves his interests, rather than upholding democratic values.

Afegbua’s career is marked by a focus on personal gain. His media campaigns often benefit his pocket rather than the public. This self-serving behavior disqualifies him as a trustworthy critic of Obaseki’s administration. His narratives should be viewed through the lens of personal profit rather than public interest.

Kassim Afegbua’s criticisms of Governor Obaseki are marred by inconsistencies and self-interest. He has defended and attacked Oshiomhole, Obaseki, and Okpebholo based on shifting political winds. His support for anti-democratic figures like IBB further undermines his credibility. Afegbua should spend more time examining his own contradictions, as an unexamined life is not worth living. Until he does, his critiques on either Governor Godwin Obaseki or Dr Asue Ighodalo should be taken with a grain of salt.
