Accurate Data Collection; a tool for proper project execution – Arc Omokhodion

Edo State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, has identified accurate data collection as a tool for proper planning and implementation of projects.

The Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Arc. Joshua Omokhodion made this known when staff from the Federal Ministry of Environment paid him a courtesy visit at the Ministry’s premises in Benin City.

The Commissioner said the visit was timely and important as Governor Godwin Obaseki had always emphasized on accurate data collection as a tool for making informed decision.

In his words, “one of the greatest challenges we have in this part of the globe is that we do not have a proper data storage system and in wanting to achieve things early, especially in the health sector, data is important as it also determines the safety and well-being of the people”.

He assured them of the Ministry’s maximum cooperation in ensuring that an upcoming training exercise targeted for Environmental Health Officers by the Federal Ministry of Environment is a success, adding that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that the goals of the Federal Ministry are met.

Earlier, the Senior Environmental Health Officer and Field Epidemiologist, Mrs. Faith Gbagidi explained that they were in the Ministry to intimate the Commissioner on the training of Environmental Health Officers on surveillance systems of environmental health data collection.

According to Mrs. Gbagidi, the Environmental Health Officers who were drawn from the eighteen Local Government Areas of the State would be trained on how to collect environmental health data from communities, which would be sent to the Federal Ministry of Environment through the State Ministry.

While commending Governor Godwin Obaseki for the ongoing developmental strides in the State, she explained that the training would take place in the six geo-political zones of the Country, adding that Edo State is the pilot State for the training, which would be for a duration of five days.
