BENIN CITY, Edo State — Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has charged newly inaugurated chairmen and members of two critical state commissions to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.

The Governor gave the charge on Thursday at the Government House, Benin City, during the swearing-in of the newly appointed leadership and members of the Ecological Funding and Management Commission and the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Mr. Terry Igiebor was sworn in as Chairman of the Ecological Funding and Management Commission, while Prof. David Osifo was inaugurated as a member of the commission.

Similarly, Dr. Shittu Shaibu took the oath of office as Chairman of the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, alongside Mr. Thomas Inegbedion, Abdulrask Abubakar, Alex Oniawu and Patrick Iluobe, who were sworn in as members.

Addressing the appointees, Governor Okpebholo congratulated them on their appointments, stressing that their new responsibilities were enormous and required commitment, teamwork and a clear understanding of the administration’s development objectives.

He particularly described the task before the electricity regulatory commission as challenging but achievable, noting that the success of the state’s electricity sector would require the collective efforts of government, regulators, investors and other stakeholders.

“The task before you is enormous, it is going to be difficult, but with your determination, we can achieve whatever we want to achieve. If we work together and work hard, we can achieve whatever we want to achieve so that we can have a common goal in the electricity sector,” the Governor said.

Governor Okpebholo further disclosed that several stakeholders had expressed interest in investing in Edo State, stressing that the establishment of sound policies and a conducive regulatory environment would be crucial to attracting and sustaining such investments.

He therefore urged the new commission members to remain dedicated and focused on their respective mandates, assuring that their collective efforts could deliver meaningful transformation in the state.

Responding on behalf of the Ecological Funding and Management Commission, Igiebor expressed appreciation to Governor Okpebholo for the confidence reposed in them, describing their appointment as a rare privilege and a call to service.

He assured the Governor that the commission would work diligently to support and advance the administration’s SHINE Agenda, pledging that the team would strive to deliver results that would make the Governor proud at the end of their tenure.

In his remarks, Shaibu, who spoke on behalf of the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, also thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve, assuring that the members would bring their wealth of experience and expertise to bear on the development of Edo’s electricity sector.

He said their appointment was based on merit and pledged that the commission would deploy its collective experience, including expertise acquired at the national level, to strengthen the state’s electricity regulatory framework and position Edo as a leading light in Nigeria’s power sector.

The inauguration underscores the Okpebholo administration’s continuing effort to strengthen institutional structures and create an enabling environment for sustainable development, investment and improved public services across Edo State.

The ceremony was attended by government officials, political leaders, stakeholders and other dignitaries.
