BENIN CITY, EDO STATE — As Edo State marks 35 years of creation, the Managing Director of the Edo State Transport Authority (ESTA), Hon. Henshaw Oligbi, has joined the people of Edo in celebrating the milestone, while strongly commending Governor Monday Okpebholo for what he described as a bold and purposeful transformation of the state’s transportation and infrastructure landscape.
For Oligbi, the story of Edo at 35 is increasingly becoming a story of renewed development ambition under the Okpebholo administration—a government that is demonstrating that genuine transportation reform must begin with the infrastructure that makes movement possible.
He particularly commended Governor Okpebholo’s aggressive intervention in road construction and rehabilitation, bridges, flyovers and other strategic infrastructure, describing them as critical building blocks of the administration’s emerging transport revolution.
According to Oligbi, Governor Okpebholo has demonstrated an important understanding that transportation is not simply about putting vehicles on the road.
It is about building the roads on which those vehicles can move, constructing bridges that connect communities, developing flyovers that unlock traffic corridors and creating the infrastructure that allows people, goods and businesses to move freely.
This, he said, is where the administration’s approach stands out.
Across Edo State, roads are being constructed and rehabilitated, while strategic bridges, flyovers and junction improvements are changing the physical landscape of mobility. These interventions, Oligbi noted, are creating the foundation for a more connected state and strengthening the effectiveness of government transportation initiatives.
For a state positioned as a major gateway between Nigeria’s western, northern and eastern corridors, such investments carry enormous economic and political significance.
Oligbi believes Governor Okpebholo is not merely responding to transportation challenges; he is beginning to reshape the infrastructure architecture through which Edo’s economic future will be driven.
The return and strengthening of the New Edo Line further complements this wider intervention, providing an organised public transportation option within an expanding network of roads and transport infrastructure.
But the bigger story, Oligbi stressed, is the comprehensive approach being adopted by the administration.
The combination of road projects, bridges, flyovers, public transportation and stronger transport-sector coordination reflects a government that understands the connection between infrastructure and prosperity.
When roads are opened, communities become accessible.
When bridges are constructed, economic barriers are removed.
When flyovers ease congestion, productivity increases.
When public transportation improves, workers, students, traders and businesses gain greater mobility.
And when all these interventions are coordinated through institutions such as ESTA, transportation becomes an instrument of economic transformation rather than merely a daily necessity.
This is why Oligbi’s commendation of Governor Okpebholo goes beyond ordinary anniversary rhetoric.
It is an acknowledgement of a political leadership that has placed visible infrastructure delivery at the centre of its development message.
At Edo 35, the evidence is increasingly visible on the streets and corridors of the state.

He saluted the people of Edo for their resilience and congratulated the state on its 35th anniversary, while reaffirming his confidence in Governor Okpebholo’s capacity to sustain the momentum.
