The Edo State Government has categorically disowned reports suggesting that Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been barred from entering or performing in Edo State, describing the purported ban as false, unauthorised and completely unrelated to the position of the state government.

In a strongly worded clarification issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, Mnipr., the Edo State Government reaffirmed its openness to Davido and other Nigerians, stressing that the state remains a welcoming home to all citizens irrespective of their political affiliation, beliefs, associations or persuasions.

The Commissioner stated that the individual who purportedly announced the ban did not speak for the Edo State Government, describing the proclamation as the work of an impostor and fraudster acting outside government authority.

According to the statement, Edo State not only welcomes Davido but would be willing to collaborate with the internationally acclaimed artiste should he choose to perform in the state in the future.

The government further emphasised that Governor Monday Okpebholo remains committed to maintaining a balanced and inclusive administration that accommodates Edo people and residents across different social, political and demographic backgrounds.

The statement also highlighted Davido’s Edo heritage through his maternal lineage, describing him as one of Nigeria’s illustrious sons and a global ambassador whose achievements in the entertainment industry have continued to project Nigeria positively on the international stage.

The Commissioner noted that whatever political exchanges may have occurred between Davido and political actors in the aftermath of the recent election in Osun State should be viewed strictly within the context of political contestation and should not be interpreted as a personal disagreement or a basis for hostility.

The Edo State Government therefore extended an open invitation to Davido, assuring him that he would be warmly received should he decide to visit the state.

“Edo State is home to all,” the government reaffirmed, stressing that its doors remain open to Nigerians across political and social divides.

The government also commended Davido for his accomplishments in the global music industry, describing him as a young Nigerian who has built bridges across social and political boundaries while contributing significantly to Nigeria’s international cultural influence.

Edo State, the Commissioner said, remains proud of Davido’s achievements and looks forward to seeing him attain even greater milestones on the global stage, including the much-anticipated Grammy recognition.

The clarification puts to rest the purported ban and reinforces the Edo State Government’s position that Davido remains welcome in the state.
