Haruna Braimoh: Governor Monday Okpebholo Leads Edo State to $26 Billion GDP, Emerges as Nigeria’s Seventh Largest Economy

Kingsley Ohens reporting

The Special Adviser on Public Affairs and Media to the Edo State Governor, Hon. Haruna Braimoh, has announced that Edo State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has reached $26 billion, positioning the state as the seventh-largest economy in Nigeria under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Braimoh disclosed that the latest economic milestone surpasses the $25 billion GDP projection made by the immediate past administration for 2024, describing the achievement as a clear reflection of the state’s accelerating economic growth and the impact of Governor Okpebholo’s development-driven policies.

According to the Special Adviser, the impressive economic performance is being driven by renewed investor confidence, improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), prudent fiscal management, and strategic investments across key sectors of the state’s economy.

He noted that the milestone is the result of deliberate policy decisions, responsible governance, and the Governor’s unwavering commitment to building a resilient and inclusive economy capable of delivering sustainable prosperity for the people of Edo State.

Braimoh explained that since assuming office, Governor Okpebholo has implemented his administration’s S.H.I.N.E. Agenda—Security, Health, Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Agriculture, and Education—which continues to serve as the foundation for the state’s economic transformation.

He highlighted major infrastructure projects, including the ongoing Benin City flyover and extensive road rehabilitation across the state, as strategic investments designed to facilitate commerce, improve connectivity, and enhance the movement of people and goods.

On security, he stated that the administration has strengthened the operational capacity of security agencies through sustained logistical support and the deployment of operational vehicles, creating a safer environment for residents, businesses, and investors.

Braimoh further noted that the government has continued to invest in human capital development through the renovation of schools and primary healthcare centres, while repositioning the agricultural sector and harnessing the state’s natural resources to stimulate industrial growth, create employment opportunities, and expand economic productivity.

He described the $26 billion GDP milestone as more than an economic statistic, saying it demonstrates growing confidence in Edo State as a preferred investment destination and validates the administration’s commitment to delivering measurable and sustainable development.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, Governor Monday Okpebholo said his administration would remain focused on ensuring that the benefits of economic progress are felt by every Edo citizen through improved livelihoods, expanded opportunities, and sustainable development.

With Edo State now ranked among Nigeria’s leading economies, the latest achievement reinforces the administration’s vision of positioning the state as a competitive destination for investment, innovation, and long-term economic prosperity.
