IRRUA, EDO STATE – Prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and political stakeholder, Hon. Dr. Ernest Iyere Ahamioje, has showered encomiums on the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, describing him as “the best Governor Edo State has ever had” while applauding his leadership style, political maturity, and commitment to party unity.

Hon. Ahamioje made the remarks as Governor Okpebholo intensified consultations and strategic engagements with party leaders, stakeholders, support groups, and grassroots mobilisers across the Edo Central Senatorial District in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

“I can’t hide my admiration and loyalty for this great son of Esanland for his political maturity and sagacity. I will continue to say it: Senator Monday Okpebholo is the best Governor Edo State has ever had,” Hon. Ahamioje declared.

The governor’s engagements, which took place at his residence and the Okaijesan Town Hall in Irrua, were part of a broader effort to strengthen party cohesion, consolidate the APC’s political structure, and galvanise support ahead of the July 11, 2026 local government elections and the 2027 presidential election.

Addressing party faithful, Governor Okpebholo underscored the importance of unity, loyalty, reconciliation, and collective responsibility in sustaining the APC’s electoral dominance in Edo State.

“Politics is about give and take. I convened this meeting because I wanted to reconnect with many party faithful I have not seen for a long time. This is a moment for sincerity, honesty, and renewed commitment. Your presence here is a clear demonstration of your support for our administration and our great party,” the governor stated.

The high-level consultations attracted APC chairmanship candidates and 51 councillorship candidates from the five local government areas of Edo Central Senatorial District, reflecting the party’s growing momentum ahead of upcoming elections.

Governor Okpebholo also held separate strategic engagements with key support groups, including the Esan Central Bike and Keke Riders Association, the Edo Women Ambassadors for Renewed Hope Agenda (EWARHA), Edo Central Chapter, and members of the Arewa community resident within the district.

The gathering was attended by several prominent party leaders and government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, Esq.; Senatorial Leader, Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe (Rtd.); former Speakers of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Thomas Okosun, Rt. Hon. Justin Okonoboh, and Rt. Hon. Victor Edoro; former Senator Clifford Ordia; as well as other respected APC stakeholders.

Speaking on the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, Governor Okpebholo expressed confidence that Edo State would deliver overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing ongoing developmental projects and economic reforms being implemented by the Federal Government.

He particularly commended the Federal Government’s rehabilitation of the Ekpoma-Ehor Road, describing the project as a critical intervention capable of transforming transportation, commerce, and socio-economic activities across the state.

The governor also defended the removal of fuel subsidy, characterising it as a difficult but necessary economic reform designed to free up resources for infrastructure development and long-term national growth.

Addressing members of the transport sector, Governor Okpebholo assured operators of his administration’s continued support and encouraged them to remain committed partners in advancing the APC’s developmental and political objectives.

In a significant announcement to women groups, the governor disclosed that Nigeria’s First Lady would soon visit Edo State to launch an empowerment initiative aimed at providing business support loans and economic opportunities for women across the state.

Political observers have described the series of consultations as a strategic move by Governor Okpebholo to consolidate the APC’s grassroots support base, strengthen internal cohesion, and position the party for electoral success in both the forthcoming local government elections and the 2027 general elections.

For Hon. Dr. Ernest Iyere Ahamioje and many party stakeholders in Edo Central, the consultations reaffirm Governor Okpebholo’s reputation as a unifying leader committed to inclusive governance, political stability, and the continued advancement of Edo State.
