The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strengthened its internal nomination framework with a clear directive requiring all aspirants for the 2027 general elections to obtain the approval of their respective state governors before purchasing nomination forms.
The party’s national leadership described the move as a strategic step toward deepening discipline, coordination, and unity across all levels of the party, emphasizing that adherence to established structures remains fundamental to sustaining electoral success.
Under the new guidance, aspirants for state and National Assembly positions are expected to engage in thorough consultations with governors and party leadership in their states prior to formalizing their ambitions. The APC noted that this approach is designed to ensure that all prospective candidates are properly aligned with zoning arrangements and the broader political direction of the party.
Reiterating its firm stance on accountability, the leadership also made it clear that nomination fees—often amounting to millions of naira—will not be refunded to aspirants who withdraw from the race. This policy, according to party officials, is intended to promote seriousness, discourage speculative candidacies, and encourage early consensus-building within the party.
Party insiders highlighted that the directive will help eliminate unnecessary financial waste while fostering a more orderly and efficient candidate selection process. By prioritizing consultation and collective decision-making, the APC aims to present a united front and strengthen its grassroots-to-national cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
