Governor Okpebholo Celebrates Mothers, Reaffirms Commitment to Women-Centred Governance

Benin City, April 19, 2026 — , Governor of , has extended warm felicitations to mothers in the Catholic community on the occasion of Mother’s Day, commending their enduring contributions to family life and societal development.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Governor acknowledged the diverse expressions of motherhood, including biological, adoptive, foster, and caregiving roles, noting that women continue to play a defining role in shaping the moral and social fabric of society.

He described mothers as pivotal to the stability and growth of communities, highlighting their resilience, sacrifice, and commitment to nurturing future generations under often challenging circumstances.

Governor Okpebholo further linked his administration’s policy direction to the welfare of women and families, stating that the SHINE Agenda—an acronym for Security, Health, Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Agriculture, and Education—remains focused on improving living standards across the state.

According to him, ongoing investments in healthcare, education, and security are intended to enhance access to essential services, strengthen community safety, and create an enabling environment where families can thrive.

He also called for sustained societal recognition of the role of mothers, urging citizens to complement expressions of appreciation with tangible acts of care and support.

The Governor extended solidarity to mothers who have experienced the loss of children, as well as families navigating grief, noting that their experiences reflect shared human realities that call for empathy and collective support.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, he emphasized that policies aimed at empowering women and safeguarding their welfare remain central to achieving sustainable development in the state.
