The Edo State Government has reiterated its resolve to deliver high-quality, durable road infrastructure in line with approved engineering standards, as part of a broader strategy to accelerate development and improve connectivity across the state.
This assurance was given by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects Monitoring and Implementation, Engr. Phoebe Williams-Bello, during a three-day inspection tour of ongoing road projects spanning Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts. The exercise forms part of a structured oversight mechanism designed to ensure compliance, efficiency, and value for public expenditure.
Addressing journalists in Edo Central, Williams-Bello expressed satisfaction with both the pace and quality of ongoing works, while urging contractors to sustain momentum and adhere strictly to specifications. She attributed the steady progress to the infrastructure-focused agenda of Monday Okpebholo, particularly highlighting the administration’s commitment to prompt payment of contractors.
According to her, sections of inspected roads have already reached the binder course stage, with the final wearing course expected to follow in due course—an indication of measurable progress within project timelines. She emphasized that financial discipline and accountability in contractor payments have significantly minimized delays and enhanced productivity on-site.
Contractors involved in key projects also conveyed confidence in meeting delivery timelines. Engr. Michel Haddad, overseeing the 11.5-kilometre dual carriageway linking Ewu, Uromi, Igueben, and Ekpoma, affirmed that the project remains on schedule and aligned with stipulated quality benchmarks.
In Edo North, the inspection extended to critical palliative interventions on deteriorated sections of the Auchi–Igarra–Aiyetoro–Unemu–Nekhua–Aiyegunle–Ekpesa–Ibillo–Ekor corridor in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. Williams-Bello reassured residents of the government’s commitment to rehabilitating key transport routes and addressing longstanding infrastructure deficits.
She expressed confidence that the administration would deliver significant road infrastructure across all three senatorial districts—Edo North, Central, and South—within the projected timeframe, while appealing to citizens for patience as construction progresses.
Further inspections covered the Ibillo–Igarra 9.6-kilometre road, where notable progress was recorded. However, contractors were advised to accelerate work to meet delivery targets. Project contractor Engr. Bajwa Mohd reaffirmed commitment to maintaining quality standards and achieving over 50 percent completion in the near term.
Additional projects reviewed during the tour include the Irrua–Illeh–Usenu–Ukhun Road, Irrua–Akho–Illeh–Ukhun Road, Ewatto–Udo Road, Idumu Iyasele Road, Ideselu–Ewatto Road, and Ohe–Ozea Road—reflecting a comprehensive infrastructure rollout across multiple communities.
The inspection marks the first quarterly project assessment led by Williams-Bello, underscoring the administration’s emphasis on transparency, accountability, and performance tracking in public infrastructure delivery.
With sustained oversight and adherence to engineering standards, the Edo State Government signals its intent to not only complete projects on schedule but to ensure long-term durability—positioning infrastructure as a cornerstone of economic growth and regional integration.
