Hon. Enabulele made this assertion while addressing journalists at the media centre of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium during the reception of 16-year-old autistic artist and endurance cyclist Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, who is undertaking a historic 100-mile cycling ride from Enugu to Lagos.

Describing the initiative as both symbolic and impactful, Enabulele noted that the young cyclist’s journey transcends sport, serving as a powerful platform to challenge societal misconceptions about autism and amplify the voices of persons living with disabilities.

“Kanyeyachukwu’s journey is a compelling reminder that sports is not merely about competition, but a potent instrument for advocacy, unity, and social transformation,” he said. “Through this initiative, he is breaking barriers, confronting stereotypes, and fostering greater awareness and inclusion for persons with disabilities.”

The Sports Commission boss commended the teenager’s courage and resilience, describing the endurance ride—organized to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day—as a remarkable feat that embodies determination and purpose.

“We are not just witnessing a sporting activity; we are part of a movement defined by courage, resilience, inclusion, and the limitless potential of the human spirit,” Enabulele stated. “Edo State is proud to be part of this historic journey toward global recognition in sports achievement.”

He further highlighted the significance of the cyclist’s passage through Edo State, noting his maternal ties to the state and reaffirming the government’s commitment to youth development, inclusivity, and excellence in sports.

“Edo State remains steadfast in its belief that there is ability in disability when given the right opportunities. This journey is a beacon of hope to young Nigerians that no dream is unattainable and no obstacle insurmountable,” he added.

In a goodwill message, the Edo State Commissioner for Health, Cyril Oshiomhole, lauded the young athlete’s determination, describing the feat as a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit.

“At just 16, Kanyeyachukwu has chosen to challenge limits and redefine possibilities. His story inspires not only young people but all of us to understand that impossibility is indeed a myth,” he said.

Providing insight into the journey, Kanyeyachukwu’s father, Mr. Tagbo Okeke—who is accompanying him on the ride—explained that the initiative is aimed at raising awareness about autism. He noted that they had traversed several cities including Enugu, Awka, and Asaba, with Benin City serving as a key stopover en route to Lagos.

He revealed that his son, diagnosed with autism at the age of four, has continued to defy expectations, including achieving global recognition after setting a record for the largest painting on canvas.

Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke’s endurance ride stands as a symbol of courage and advocacy, reinforcing the growing recognition of sports as a unifying force and a catalyst for social change, particularly in advancing inclusion and awareness for persons living with disabilities.
