The Distinguished Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Joseph Ikpea, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the sustainable development of Edo Central, as the people of Ekpoma Kingdom celebrated the 2026 Ihuen Festival.

The Senator was ably represented at the historic event by his Senior Legislative Aide, Hon. Prosper Iyere, who conveyed his goodwill to the Royal Majesty, traditional rulers, chiefs, elders, and the entire people of Ekpoma and Edo Central.

The colourful Ihuen Festival, held in the revered Ekpoma Royal Kingdom, brought together sons and daughters of the community from across Nigeria and the diaspora. The celebration featured vibrant cultural displays, traditional rites, and a renewed appreciation of the enduring heritage of the Esan people.

Delivering the Senator’s message, Hon. Iyere reassured the people of Edo Central Senatorial District of Senator Ikpea’s steadfast dedication to facilitating impactful and people-oriented development across Esan Land. He emphasised that the Senator remains deeply committed to advancing infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, and women’s empowerment initiatives, as well as other constituency projects designed to improve the standard of living within the district.

Hon. Iyere explained that Senator Ikpea assumed office at a time when the national budget had already been passed, being close to the end of the fiscal year.

Consequently, there was no opportunity to accommodate new constituency projects within the existing budget cycle. He clarified that, contrary to widespread misconceptions, a Senator does not operate a personal budget but can only facilitate projects through established legislative procedures and budgetary provisions duly approved by the National Assembly.
Appealing for patience and continued support, Hon. Iyere assured the people that the 2026 fiscal year presents a fresh window for the inclusion and execution of strategic developmental projects across Edo Central. He expressed confidence that the coming months would usher in visible and tangible dividends of representation that would justify the trust and confidence reposed in Senator Ikpea.

Addressing the Senator’s absence, Hon. Iyere noted that pressing legislative duties and national assignments at the National Assembly required his presence in Abuja. He affirmed, however, that the Senator remains closely connected to his constituents and fully committed to their welfare and progress.

He concluded by reiterating Senator Ikpea’s dedication to unity, cultural preservation, and sustainable development throughout Esan Land, while praying for continued peace, prosperity, and progress in Ekpoma Kingdom and across Edo Central Senatorial District.

The 2026 Ihuen Festival thus served not only as a celebration of cultural heritage but also as a platform to strengthen the bond between leadership people, anchored in trust, mutual understanding, and a shared vision for a greater Esan Land.
