The President commended the outgoing police chief for his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture during his tenure. Appointed in June 2023 for a statutory four-year term expected to conclude in June 2027 under the amended provisions of the Police Act, Egbetokun’s leadership period focused on consolidating reforms and enhancing operational efficiency within the Force.

In view of prevailing security challenges, President Tinubu approved the immediate appointment of AIG Tunji Disu in an acting capacity, citing his extensive operational experience, strategic depth, and demonstrated leadership credentials. The President expressed confidence that Disu would provide steady and purposeful direction for the Nigeria Police Force at this critical time.

In compliance with the Police Act 2020, the President will convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police. Following the Council’s decision, his name will be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation in line with constitutional requirements.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security, President Tinubu emphasized continued efforts to enhance institutional capacity, deepen accountability, and ensure that the Nigeria Police Force remains professional and fully equipped to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
