Grassroots Governance in Action: Esan Central Communities Celebrate Wave of Development Projects

By Urbanscoopnews

Communities across Esan Central Constituency came alive with celebration and optimism as the Member representing the constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Fada Eigbiremonlen, commissioned a series of completed development projects spanning education, electrification, and economic infrastructure. The multi-community exercise underscored a growing sense of confidence in representative governance and grassroots-focused leadership.

The tour opened at Usenu Primary School, where newly built classroom blocks were officially unveiled before a broad gathering of political leaders, education stakeholders, traditional figures, and residents. Chairing the event was the Edo Central Senatorial Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Cecil Esekhiagbe (Rtd.), represented by party leaders and senior stakeholders from across the senatorial district.

In his remarks, Gen. Esekhiagbe described the projects as clear evidence of democracy delivering real value to the people. He observed that while Esan Central had experienced legislative representation over the years, the scope, quality, and equitable distribution of projects executed by Hon. Eigbiremonlen distinguished his tenure. He further linked the achievements to the development-oriented vision of the Edo State Government, offering prayers for strength and greater responsibility for the lawmaker.

Voices from the school community echoed deep appreciation. Pupils and teachers alike highlighted the transformative impact of improved learning facilities, noting that a safer and more conducive environment would significantly enhance academic outcomes. Community leaders praised the lawmaker for interventions beyond education, particularly the installation of solar-powered streetlights—described as a first-of-its-kind project for the area.

Responding to community appeals, Hon. Eigbiremonlen assured residents that additional amenities, including sanitation facilities and a functional water system for the school, would be delivered within weeks. He reaffirmed his gratitude for the sustained support of the people and urged continued backing for Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, whom he described as firmly committed to inclusive development.

The commissioning exercise continued at Idunwele Primary School, Ewu, where a modern block of six classrooms with staff offices was formally inaugurated. Addressing attendees, party leaders commended the lawmaker for bringing legislative impact directly to the grassroots, noting that such large-scale interventions by a state legislator were rare and commendable.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came from a Primary Six pupil who delivered a confident and emotionally resonant address, thanking Hon. Eigbiremonlen for transforming what had once been a dream into reality. Her speech drew applause and reflected the broader sentiment among pupils whose learning conditions had been dramatically improved.

Community representatives and school administrators described the new classrooms as a critical investment in human capital development, while also appealing for more teachers and complementary infrastructure. Hon. Eigbiremonlen responded by assuring stakeholders that their requests would receive prompt attention, commending educators for their dedication to shaping future leaders.

Economic empowerment also featured prominently during the tour. At Idinegbon Market Square, Eidenu-Irrua, traders welcomed the commissioning of newly constructed open stalls and lock-up shops with music and celebration. Speakers praised the lawmaker for prioritizing market infrastructure as a pathway to improved livelihoods, particularly for women and small-scale entrepreneurs. Additional appeals for road access, water supply, and electricity were acknowledged, with assurances that some projects had already been captured in the state development plan.

At Ikekato Secondary School, Udowo Community, Hon. Eigbiremonlen unveiled a block of three classrooms complete with a furnished staff office. Education stakeholders described the project as a strategic investment in the future, while students expressed renewed motivation to excel academically. The visit also featured the commissioning of an electricity extension project involving the installation of 120 power poles, a development residents said would significantly boost socio-economic activity in the area.

The final stop took place at Afuda Primary School, Uwessan, where newly completed staff quarters were formally opened. Community leaders hailed the project as a tangible demonstration of democratic dividends and pledged continued support for the lawmaker’s leadership. Calls for increased teacher deployment were met with assurances of sustained engagement with relevant authorities.

From classrooms to markets, from power supply to staff accommodation, the commissioning tour painted a picture of deliberate, people-centered governance. For many residents of Esan Central, the projects went beyond physical structures—they represented visibility, inclusion, and responsiveness in leadership.

As communities dispersed with songs, gratitude, and renewed hope, the message was unmistakable: effective representation, when rooted in grassroots needs, can translate democratic ideals into everyday realities.
