Ekpoma, Esan West LGA – January 31, 2026
In a remarkable demonstration of civic responsibility and community solidarity, members of the Ekpoma Youth Development Association (EYDA) were fully mobilized for a large-scale environmental sanitation exercise aimed at cleaning and beautifying Ekpoma town in Esan West Local Government Area.
The initiative, which drew participation from youth leaders, volunteers, and residents, focused on clearing refuse from streets, public spaces, and drainage channels, underscoring the community’s commitment to sustainable urban living and environmental health.
Speaking at the event, the Representative of EYDA emphasized the critical role of youth in promoting environmental stewardship, noting that a clean town not only enhances public health but also fosters civic pride and attracts social and economic opportunities. “Our collective efforts today reflect our commitment to making Ekpoma a cleaner, safer, and more livable community for everyone,” he stated.
Local residents expressed appreciation for the youths’ proactive engagement, highlighting the visible improvement in the town’s aesthetics and sanitation. Many described the exercise as a model for other communities seeking to tackle environmental challenges through grassroots participation.
The exercise aligns with broader national and global efforts to maintain urban cleanliness and promote sustainable development, echoing the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, which advocates for safe, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities.
As Ekpoma’s youth continue to champion such initiatives, the town stands as a testament to the transformative power of local action, community engagement, and the indispensable role of young leaders in shaping a cleaner, healthier future.
