Acting Esan West Chairman Visits Ekpoma Palace, Assures Community of Improved Security

The Acting Chairman of Esan West Local Government Area, Hon. Blessing Albert Ebhodaghe (popularly known as BB), on Saturday, January 10, 2026, paid a condolence and assessment visit to the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma, following the destruction of property during a protest that turned violent in the town.

The visit was aimed at assessing the extent of damage caused by hoodlums who hijacked what was initially intended to be a peaceful protest by youths in Ekpoma, the administrative headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area.

During the visit, the Onojie of Ekpoma took the Acting Chairman round the palace to show him several items destroyed and looted in the incident. These included dozens of cartons of food items such as Indomie noodles, large quantities of artificial hair, broken window louvers, damaged vehicle windscreens, and unspecified sums of money allegedly carted away by the hoodlums.

Hon. Ebhodaghe expressed deep concern over the incident and condemned the destruction of traditional and public property. He extended his sympathy to the Queen of Ekpoma and the entire royal household, while calling on youths in the kingdom to embrace peace and lawful means of expressing grievances.

The Acting Chairman reassured the people of Ekpoma and Esan West at large of the government’s unwavering commitment to tackling the challenges of kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities in the area. He disclosed that the Edo State Government is intensifying security efforts across the state.

According to him, the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has given firm assurances that insecurity, particularly kidnapping in Esan West Local Government Area, will soon be brought under control and become a thing of the past.

Hon. Ebhodaghe was accompanied on the visit by top government functionaries from the local government council.

Speaking on the visit, the Chief Press Secretary to the Acting Chairman, Comrade Peace Okosun, stated that the council boss remains committed to peace, security, and the protection of traditional institutions, adding that the local government will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure lasting peace in Ekpoma and its environs.
