Communities across Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State are experiencing renewed nighttime visibility and improved security following the ongoing installation of solar-powered street lights facilitated by the Member representing Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency, Hon. Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie.

The intervention, carried out on Thursday, 8 January 2026, marks a further expansion of the lawmaker’s flagship “Operation Light Up Agbazillo Scheme,” as it reaches more communities that had not previously benefited from the initiative. The project is a continuation of Hon. Okojie’s proactive and people-focused representation in the National Assembly, aimed at delivering sustainable infrastructure and tangible democratic dividends to his constituents.

Traditional rulers, political leaders—including stakeholders from other political parties—and residents across Esan South East LGA have commended the lawmaker for what they described as a timely and impactful intervention. Many noted that Hon. Okojie has consistently won public trust through the execution of wide-ranging infrastructural and empowerment programmes since assuming office, earning him the popular description as “The People’s Legislator.”

The solar street lighting project, which is ongoing, aligns with Hon. Okojie’s broader developmental agenda of improving security, stimulating socio-economic activities and addressing challenges associated with inadequate public lighting. As Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream), the lawmaker has continued to translate effective legislative leadership into practical development outcomes for communities within his constituency.

Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Okojie emphasized that the project reflects his sense of responsibility to the people who elected him. He stated that access to light remains critical to human and societal development, noting that the installation of street lights would significantly reduce security risks while enhancing economic and social life across the benefiting areas. He further reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability and the continuous delivery of good governance.

According to the lawmaker, “You voted for me to represent you, and I will continue to do my best to provide what is expected of me. I will remain committed to accelerating democratic dividends, being transparent and accountable, and ensuring that the masses truly feel the impact of good governance.”

Areas currently benefiting from the installation include College Road opposite Girls’ Modern School, Mono Road, Freedom Road, Ubiaja Palace Road, Ugbenin Akor Street, Udakpa, Ahia and Ukhuanlen along Illushi Road, Eko Ubiaja along Delta Road, Ukpiaja, Hausa Market, Idumu Ojie, Onogholo Mission Road, Eguare Road in Onogholo, Ego–Oria, Igoh–Oria, Ukholo–Oria and Eguare–Oria roads, Illushi Main Market Road, Niger Bank Primary School Road in Illushi, as well as Okpokporo, Uroh and Ifeku communities, all within Esan South East LGA.

Hon. Okojie also appealed to beneficiary communities to take collective responsibility for protecting the installations to ensure their sustainability and long-term impact. He reassured other communities within the constituency that subsequent phases of the project would be implemented, stressing that no community would be left out.

In a statement, Okonofua Harry Osemobor, Media Aide to Hon. Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, described the solar street light project as a clear demonstration of the lawmaker’s unwavering commitment to people-centred development and his resolve to deliver practical solutions that directly improve the lives of constituents across Esan North East and Esan South East Federal Constituency.
