OKONIGENE LEADS GRASS
Urbanscopnews reporting
In a strategic move to deepen democratic participation and strengthen grassroots political engagement, Amb. ESV Tony Okonigene recently led a high-powered sensitization tour across key communities that make up Usugbenu, including Ididigba, Uzebu, Uheanokhua, Uheakpe, and Ikekiala.
The tour, which attracted significant local participation, was primarily focused on mobilizing residents to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Addressing community members at various stops, Okonigene emphasized the critical importance of voter registration as a fundamental civic responsibility and a cornerstone of democratic governance.
He urged eligible residents, particularly first-time voters and those who are yet to update their voter information, to seize the opportunity presented by the ongoing exercise. According to him, widespread participation in voter registration is essential for ensuring that the voices of the people are adequately represented in future electoral processes.
“Democracy thrives when the people are actively involved. This voter registration exercise is not just a routine activity; it is a powerful tool that gives every citizen a voice in shaping leadership and governance,” Okonigene stated.
Beyond voter mobilization, the grassroots leader also used the occasion to reaffirm support for the administration of Monday Okpebholo, commending ongoing efforts toward governance and development in Edo State. He called on the people of Usugbenu to remain steadfast in their support, stressing that continuity and collective backing are vital for sustaining progress and delivering impactful leadership.
In addition, Okonigene rallied community members to turn out en masse on Tuesday to welcome Senator Clifford Ordia into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the event as a significant political development that would further strengthen the party’s structure and influence within the region.
The sensitization tour concluded on a high note, with widespread commendation from community stakeholders who lauded the initiative as timely and impactful. Observers noted that such grassroots engagements remain crucial in bridging the gap between political leadership and the electorate, while fostering increased political awareness and participation at the community level.
As the voter registration exercise continues, stakeholders have expressed optimism that sustained advocacy and mobilization efforts like this will lead to higher voter turnout and a more inclusive democratic process in Edo State.
