APC Primaries: In Edo State, Substance Must Defeat Spectacle.

By Prince Kelly Udebhulu.

Edo state’s political landscape is at boiling point. With the APC primaries fast approaching, the atmosphere is thick with tension—alliances shifting, ambitions are clashing, and political rhetoric is reaching a fever pitch. In this high-pressure moment, every move counts, and every misstep carries consequences.

What is unfolding is more than a contest for a party ticket; it is a defining moment for the future of leadership in the state. Beneath the noise, the real question remains: Who truly has the capacity and temperament to lead?

This is not a season for political theatrics. It is a season for credibility.
Crowds can be assembled overnight. Slogans can be manufactured. Popularity can be projected. But trust—enduring trust—cannot be fabricated. It is earned through consistency, integrity, and a proven connection with the people.

The aspirant who will emerge as the APC flagbearer must rise above the noise. He must demonstrate not just the ability to attract attention but the strength to sustain confidence and unify diverse interests without fracturing the party’s foundation.

At a time when political rivalries are straining relationships and testing loyalties, discipline within party ranks is non-negotiable. There must be no room for actions that weaken the collective strength of the APC. Victory achieved through division is a fragile victory at best. Loyalty to the party should remain non-negotiable.

Edo State’s politics stands at a crossroads. The choice before party stakeholders and party faithfuls is clear: embrace leadership built on substance and party built on loyalty or risk being swayed by spectacle.

When the primaries are decided and the dust settles, only one truth will matter—the aspirant who can command the crowd, sustain their trust, and protect the unity of the party is the one truly fit to carry the mandate forward.
