Governor Okpebholo described the occasion as a pivotal step in his administration’s drive to reposition the education sector, emphasizing that the projects symbolize progress, strategic partnerships, and a shared commitment to academic excellence and improved healthcare infrastructure.

He commended Chief Ehi Aganmonmen for his philanthropic contribution toward the establishment of the E-Library, noting that the provision of computers and furniture would significantly enhance digital learning and research capacity within the university. Similarly, he acknowledged the role of Mr. Peter Omoh Dunia in supporting the development of the fitness centre, describing the initiative as a critical investment in student health and wellbeing.

The Governor also highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in public development, citing contributions from stakeholders including a parent who volunteered to sponsor architectural designs and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adetimirin, who donated one month’s salary toward ongoing projects. In response to these gestures, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed the state government’s commitment by approving the ₦2 billion grant.

Underscoring the need for broader collaboration, he called on private sector players and well-meaning individuals to partner with the government in advancing development initiatives across the state.

On healthcare, the Governor lauded the university’s plan to upgrade its medical facility from a sick bay to a full-fledged health centre, assuring continued government support to ensure its successful completion and operation.

He further urged students and the university management to ensure responsible use and proper maintenance of the newly commissioned and proposed facilities, stressing that such investments must be safeguarded for long-term sustainability.

As part of the day’s activities, Governor Okpebholo also commissioned several projects at Auchi Polytechnic, including an ICT hall, administrative blocks, and a sporting arena—projects sponsored by Mr. Peter Omoh Dunia.

Dignitaries present at the event included Adams Oshiomhole, Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District and founding visitor to the university; the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikhilor; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Yakubu Musa; and former Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, among other senior government officials.

The initiatives align with the administration’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritises strategic investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure as catalysts for sustainable development and economic growth in Edo State.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the commissioning and groundbreaking ceremonies mark another milestone in the state government’s ongoing efforts to position Edo State as a centre of academic excellence and innovation.
