The Management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) has firmly dismissed circulating reports linking the delay in the payment of March 2026 salaries to a purported ₦1 billion bailout fund, describing the claims as “false, baseless, and deliberately misleading.”
In a strongly worded statement, the University authorities clarified that the narrative suggesting any connection between the salary delay and the bailout fund is a calculated attempt to incite tension and disrupt the prevailing stability within the institution.
According to Management, the ₦1 billion bailout intervention is strictly designated for the settlement of salary arrears and not for routine monthly salary payments. It further disclosed that modalities for the transparent and equitable disbursement of the fund are currently being finalized in collaboration with the leadership of staff unions to ensure accountability and fairness.
Providing clarity on the delayed March salaries, Management revealed that payments had been fully processed and were ready for disbursement for over a week. However, an unforeseen technical failure of the Remita payment platform stalled the process, preventing timely crediting of staff accounts.
The statement referenced an earlier circular issued to staff, in which Management appealed for patience and understanding over the delay caused by the platform disruption. It assured that concerted efforts are ongoing to restore the system and facilitate prompt payment.
While reiterating its commitment to staff welfare, Management expressed concern over what it described as the activities of “mischief makers and enemies of the University” allegedly spreading falsehoods to destabilize the institution. It emphasized that such efforts would not succeed, noting that the existing harmony between Management and staff remains intact.
The University authorities also addressed a separate statement reportedly authored by Dr. Ebhodaghe Matthew, distancing the institution from the views expressed therein. Management maintained that the comments do not reflect the position of genuine stakeholders, stressing that responsible stakeholders would acknowledge ongoing efforts to stabilize and reposition the University.
Despite the controversy, Management noted with satisfaction the continued support and confidence demonstrated by key stakeholders, attributing this to its sustained focus on transparency, accountability, and institutional progress.
Reaffirming its dedication, the University Management assured that both the backlog of salary arrears and the current payment delay are receiving urgent attention, with no effort being spared to resolve the issues.
It urged staff, students, and the general public to disregard what it termed “misleading narratives,” warning that such reports are designed solely to create unnecessary anxiety and undermine institutional stability.
The statement concluded with a renewed commitment to maintaining trust, ensuring staff welfare, and sustaining the progress achieved within the University.
