Residents and traders in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, have commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern market in the community, describing the project as a major milestone in the area’s development.

The market, which consists of 700 lock-up shops, is expected to significantly boost commercial activities while improving the livelihoods of traders and small business owners upon completion.
During an inspection visit by the governor, the project site attracted a large crowd of residents and traders who turned out in high spirits to welcome him and express their appreciation. Many described the initiative as the first of its kind in Irrua and neighbouring communities, noting its potential to transform the local economy.
Some residents who spoke during the visit said their presence was a clear demonstration of gratitude for the governor’s developmental strides.

A petty trader, Isidahome Ose, said the project would have far-reaching benefits for the community. “We came out in large numbers to welcome the governor and appreciate him for his good works. This market will change our lives and businesses for the better,” she stated.
The visit was marked by a festive atmosphere, with residents singing and dancing in the Esan dialect in honour of the governor, reflecting widespread support for the initiative.

Community stakeholders also described the project as a “game changer,” emphasizing that the 700-shop capacity would expand trading space, create employment opportunities, and strengthen grassroots economic development.
Another resident, Evelyn Osemu, expressed her excitement, saying, “What we are seeing today can best be described as a miracle. We never thought we could have this kind of modern market here in Irrua. We just keep thanking our Akpakomiza governor.”
The project is part of the Okpebholo administration’s broader efforts to stimulate the local economy, empower small businesses, and enhance infrastructure development across Edo State.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects that directly impact livelihoods and drive sustainable development at the grassroots level.
