International Women’s Day 2026: Female Heads in Edo State Health Sector Celebrated

As the global community commemorates International Women’s Day 2026, attention has been drawn to the remarkable contributions of women occupying key leadership positions within the health sector of Edo State, Nigeria.
The celebration, which aligns with the spirit of women’s empowerment under the banner #AkpakoWomenEmpowerment, highlights the growing influence and leadership of women managing critical healthcare institutions in the state.
Among those recognised is Dr. Augusta Ikpea Enaholo, Director-General of the Edo State Health Insurance Commission (EDOHIC), whose leadership has played a significant role in expanding access to health insurance and improving healthcare financing for residents.
Also celebrated is Dr. Anthonia Njoku, Chief Medical Director of the Edo Specialist Hospital (ESH), noted for her efforts in strengthening specialized healthcare delivery and enhancing the hospital’s reputation as a centre for quality medical services.
In the area of professional health education, Mrs. Mabel Omobude, Provost of the Edo State College of Nursing Sciences (EDOCNS), has been commended for her role in training and mentoring future healthcare professionals while maintaining high standards in nursing education.
Equally recognised is Pharm. Kenny Okojie, Executive Secretary of the Edo State Drugs and Medical Supplies Management Agency (EDDMA), whose work continues to strengthen the management and distribution of pharmaceutical supplies across public health facilities in the state.
Rounding off the list is Dr. Adesuwa Urhoghide, Chief Executive Officer of the Edo State Health Research and Management Agency (EDOHERMA), recognised for promoting health research, innovation, and policy development aimed at improving healthcare outcomes.
Their leadership across strategic health institutions reflects the growing impact of women in governance and administration within the healthcare system. Their achievements also serve as an inspiration to young women aspiring to leadership roles across various sectors.
International Women’s Day, observed every March 8, remains a global platform for celebrating women’s achievements while advancing conversations on equality, empowerment, and inclusive development.
