Uke Community in Ward 5 of Esan West Local Government Area witnessed a remarkable moment of celebration and gratitude as Hon. Sir Dr. Lucky Eseigbe Esq formally commissioned a newly completed borehole water project facilitated by Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu, Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly and representative of Esan West Constituency.
The event drew widespread participation from community leaders, youth groups, women’s associations, and residents, all gathered to celebrate a project that addresses one of humanity’s most fundamental needs — access to clean and safe water. The commissioning marks another milestone in grassroots development efforts aimed at improving the quality of life for rural communities across Edo State.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Sir Dr. Lucky Eseigbe, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Edo State, emphasized the central role water plays in sustaining life, promoting public health, and stimulating local economic growth. He described water as the foundation of human existence and community prosperity, noting that reliable access to potable water significantly reduces health risks, enhances sanitation, and empowers small-scale enterprises dependent on water resources.
Hon. Eseigbe commended Hon. Ibhamawu for facilitating the borehole project, describing it as a thoughtful and impactful intervention that directly alleviates the burden faced by residents, particularly women and children who often travel long distances in search of clean water. He noted that such constituency-driven projects reflect responsive representation and a deep understanding of grassroots needs.
The Commissioner further applauded the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, for fostering an enabling environment that empowers members of the State House of Assembly to attract and execute tangible projects within their constituencies. He observed that the administration’s development blueprint, popularly known as the SHINE Agenda, continues to prioritize infrastructure, social welfare, and sustainable community development across the state.
Highlighting his own commitment to community advancement, Hon. Eseigbe noted that similar water projects have been facilitated in various parts of Esan West and its environs, reinforcing the resolve to expand access to essential services. He urged the people of Uke Community to take collective ownership of the borehole facility, safeguard it diligently, and ensure its sustainability for present and future generations.
In their response, community members expressed profound appreciation to both Hon. Ibhamawu and Hon. Eseigbe for their dedication to service. They offered prayers and words of encouragement, describing the project as a testament to purposeful leadership and responsive governance. Residents affirmed that leaders who prioritize basic needs such as water demonstrate the character and commitment required to represent the people effectively at both state and federal levels.
The commissioning of the Uke borehole project stands as a practical demonstration of people-centered governance in action — a collaboration between legislative facilitation and executive support delivering measurable impact. Beyond providing water, the project symbolizes hope, dignity, and renewed confidence in leadership committed to sustainable development and the wellbeing of every citizen.
