Abuja — Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea, who represents Edo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, on Monday took part in two critical budget defence sessions, underscoring his continued advocacy for equitable resource allocation and strategic national development.
The first engagement was a Joint Committee session on the budget defence for gas, upstream, midstream and downstream petroleum resources. The session brought together key stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil and gas value chain to present and justify their fiscal projections and expenditure plans for the upcoming financial year. Discussions focused on revenue generation, infrastructure expansion, regulatory oversight, and measures to strengthen transparency and operational efficiency across the sector.
Senator Ikpea actively participated in the deliberations, contributing to conversations around production optimization, gas commercialization, and the need to align budgetary provisions with Nigeria’s broader economic growth objectives. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that investments in the energy sector translate into tangible socioeconomic benefits for citizens, including job creation, industrial growth, and improved energy security.
In a separate session, the Senate Committee also considered the budget proposal of the Investment and Securities Tribunal, the adjudicatory body responsible for resolving capital market disputes. Lawmakers examined funding requests aimed at strengthening dispute resolution mechanisms, enhancing digital case management systems, and expanding institutional capacity to bolster investor confidence within Nigeria’s financial markets.
Following the engagements, Senator Ikpea addressed journalists, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to effective and people-centered representation. He assured Nigerians — particularly constituents in Edo Central — that he remains steadfast in advocating for fair and impactful budgetary allocations that reflect the developmental priorities of the district and Edo State at large.
He noted that strategic legislative oversight and active participation in budget processes are critical to ensuring that national resources are deployed efficiently and equitably. According to him, enhanced funding for critical sectors such as energy and capital markets has far-reaching implications for economic stability, investment growth, and grassroots development.
Senator Ikpea further reiterated that the interests of Edo Central will continue to guide his legislative engagements, pledging to prioritize initiatives that foster infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and sustainable economic opportunities for his constituents.
The twin budget defence sessions form part of the National Assembly’s ongoing scrutiny of government expenditure proposals, aimed at promoting fiscal responsibility, institutional accountability, and inclusive national progress.
