President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated players of Nigerian descent who featured prominently in the Seattle Seahawks’ victory at Super Bowl 60, describing their achievement as a testament to Nigerians’ global reputation for excellence and talent.
The Seahawks secured their second Lombardi Trophy with a commanding 29–13 win over the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Sunday.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the contributions of several players of Nigerian heritage who played key roles in the championship run. They include quarterback Jalen Oluwaseun Milroe; defensive standout Nick Emmanwori; veteran linebacker Uchenna Nwosu; linebacker Boye Maye; and offensive lineman Olu Oluwatimi.
The President also extended congratulations to Michael Onwenu, who represented the New England Patriots in the title game and is widely regarded as one of the league’s most dominant offensive linemen.
President Tinubu commended the athletes for bringing pride and honour to Nigeria through their professionalism and outstanding performances on American football’s biggest stage. He gave special recognition to Emmanwori, Nwosu, and Maye for raising the Nigerian flag in celebration following the Seahawks’ victory — a gesture he described as symbolic of the enduring bond between Nigeria and its diaspora community.
According to the President, the accomplishments of the players underscore the remarkable impact Nigerians continue to make across diverse fields globally, including sports, where talent, discipline, and resilience remain defining attributes.
He expressed confidence that their success would inspire young Nigerians at home and abroad to pursue excellence and represent the nation with distinction. President Tinubu concluded by wishing the athletes continued success and more victories in their professional careers.
