ESAN SOUTH EAST, EDO STATE – Dr. Ernest Iyere Ahamioje, a leading House of Assembly hopeful for Esan South East Constituency, has lauded Governor Monday Okpebholo as he prepares to receive the prestigious New Telegraph Governor of the Year (Education) Award this Friday, spotlighting the Governor’s transformative leadership and unwavering commitment to human capital development in Edo State.

In a statement, Dr. Ahamioje emphasized that leadership is measured by tangible results, noting that Governor Okpebholo has consistently delivered across critical sectors, positioning Edo State as a model for progressive governance in Nigeria. Under his stewardship, the state has recorded significant gains in security, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and education.

Security has been markedly strengthened through bold initiatives to curb violence and criminal activity, particularly cultism and kidnapping. The state has bolstered its law enforcement capabilities by recruiting 2,500 officers into the Edo State Security Corps, acquiring 75 patrol vehicles and 350 motorcycles, and enacting stronger anti-cultism and anti-kidnapping legislation, leading to a safer environment for citizens and businesses alike.

Healthcare has also seen unprecedented improvements. Edo State now hosts the South-South region’s first Vesico-Vaginal Fistula (VVF) centre, providing specialized maternal care. Residents will benefit from free malaria testing and treatment across government hospitals over the next two years, while health facilities are undergoing comprehensive upgrades to meet modern standards.

Infrastructure development under Governor Okpebholo has been equally transformative, with over 255 kilometres of roads constructed or rehabilitated, including the landmark Ramat Park flyover in Benin City, enhancing mobility, economic activity, and regional connectivity.

Agriculture has been revitalized, with the sector’s budget soaring from N4.5 billion to over N70 billion and more than 400 hectares brought under cultivation. These initiatives have strengthened local food production, improved food security, and fostered sustainable farming practices across the state.

Education, the sector earning Governor Okpebholo international recognition, has undergone a dramatic renaissance. The administration has recruited 5,000 teachers, renovated 63 schools, and increased Ambrose Alli University’s monthly subvention from N41 million to N500 million, signaling a bold commitment to quality learning and the development of human capital.

Dr. Ahamioje praised the Governor’s results-driven approach, asserting that Edo State’s progress reflects leadership rooted in vision, accountability, and measurable impact. “Governor Okpebholo has set a standard for transformative governance, and his initiatives across every sector demonstrate the power of purposeful leadership,” he said, highlighting the lasting legacy being forged for the people of Edo State.
