The Tinubu Mobilization Force (TMF) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s far-reaching sports reforms following Team Nigeria’s remarkable haul of 373 medals across global competitions within one year, describing the achievement as a clear dividend of purposeful leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a statement signed by the forum’s Convener, Dr. Lami Oguogho, and issued in Abuja on Saturday, TMF said the unprecedented medal success validates the President’s decisive intervention to overhaul Nigeria’s sports funding, administration, and athlete development systems.

For decades, Nigeria’s sports sector grappled with delayed funding, bureaucratic bottlenecks, fragmented institutional oversight, and inadequate infrastructure—factors that consistently undermined athlete preparation and international competitiveness. President Tinubu, according to the statement, has moved decisively to end this cycle.

As part of the reforms, the President has approved and directed the Ministries of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, and the Budget Office of the Federation to reset sports funding frameworks beginning from the 2026 fiscal year. Under the new policy direction, adequate annual budgetary provisions will be made for sports infrastructure development and maintenance, sporting programs, events, and Nigeria’s participation in international competitions.

Crucially, all funds appropriated for sports will now be released immediately upon budget passage and presidential assent, ensuring early preparation and planning.

“Nigerian athletes deserve certainty, not excuses,” President Tinubu declared, underscoring his administration’s commitment to performance-driven sports governance.

TMF further noted that allocations for sporting activities previously scattered across multiple ministries, departments, and agencies will be reviewed, restructured, and streamlined, with savings transferred into a unified funding framework under the National Sports Commission. This, the forum said, will strengthen grassroots development, elite athlete programs, and Nigeria’s global sporting engagements.

According to Dr. Oguogho, these reforms are firmly anchored on the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), which positions sports as a strategic driver of job creation, tourism development, investment attraction, and enhanced global influence.

“Through scientific elite athlete development, expanded grassroots participation, revitalized sports federations, and the hosting of major international competitions on home soil, the Tinubu administration is deliberately building a high-performance sports ecosystem,” the statement read.

TMF emphasized that President Tinubu has consistently reaffirmed that sports, as a national asset, must be administered and funded in line with its unique demands—free from bureaucratic delays and institutional inefficiencies.

“The future of Nigerian sports will be planned, properly funded, and competitive. We will support our athletes early, prepare them thoroughly, and celebrate them proudly. Nigeria will continue to win, with pride,” the President stated.

The Tinubu Mobilization Force concluded by commending Nigerian athletes for their resilience and patriotism, while urging sustained national support to consolidate the country’s rising status as a global sporting force.
