Abuja — In a sustained effort to address critical infrastructure challenges in Edo State, the Most Distinguished Senator Ikpea Joseph Igiagbe on Thursday held a strategic meeting with the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, to deliberate on the deteriorating state of federal roads within the Edo Central Senatorial District.
The high-level engagement, which took place in Abuja, focused on the urgent need for federal intervention to rehabilitate key road corridors that serve as economic lifelines for communities across the district. Senator Igiagbe highlighted the adverse impact of poor road conditions on commerce, agriculture, security, and the overall quality of life of constituents.
During the meeting, the Senator presented a detailed overview of priority road projects within Edo Central, emphasizing their strategic importance to regional connectivity and national economic integration. He stressed that the current state of the roads has continued to hinder movement, increase transportation costs, and pose safety risks to road users.
Engr. David Umahi, in his response, acknowledged the concerns raised and reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Works’ commitment to improving road infrastructure across the country in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of the Federal Government. He noted that the Ministry is undertaking assessments of critical federal roads nationwide, with a view to phased rehabilitation and reconstruction based on urgency and available resources.
The Minister further assured that the issues affecting Edo Central would receive due consideration, emphasizing the Federal Government’s resolve to ensure equitable infrastructural development across all geopolitical zones.
Senator Igiagbe commended the Minister for his openness and responsiveness, reiterating his commitment to sustained legislative advocacy and collaboration with relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure that the developmental needs of Edo Central Senatorial District are adequately addressed.
The meeting underscores Senator Igiagbe’s proactive representation and his ongoing dedication to advancing infrastructure-driven development as a catalyst for economic growth and social wellbeing in Edo State and Nigeria at large.
