Edo State House of Assembly hopeful for Esan South East Constituency, Dr. Ernest Iyere Ahamioje, has described the ongoing Orientation and Strategic Leadership Retreat for senior government officials in Udomi, Esan Central Local Government Area, as a defining moment in Edo State’s democratic and institutional reform journey under Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Dr. Ahamioje said the retreat reflects a deliberate shift toward governance anchored on accountability, strategic planning and outcome-based leadership, noting that such an approach strengthens democratic institutions and enhances the quality of public service delivery across the state.
According to him, Governor Okpebholo’s decision to convene top public office holders for an intensive leadership and governance engagement demonstrates foresight and seriousness of purpose, particularly at a time when citizens increasingly demand transparency, efficiency and value from government.
He noted that the governor’s firm position that governance must be driven by discipline, teamwork and measurable results sends a strong signal that Edo State is entering an era where leadership will be assessed by impact rather than promises.
Dr. Ahamioje observed that the retreat has far-reaching legislative implications, as it reinforces the importance of policy coherence, fiscal responsibility and institutional collaboration — elements that are critical to effective lawmaking and oversight. He added that a public service aligned with clear performance benchmarks makes legislative scrutiny more meaningful and strengthens the relationship between the executive and the legislature.
The House of Assembly hopeful further commended the administration’s emphasis on ethical leadership and prudent management of public resources, describing it as a foundation upon which sound laws and sustainable development policies can thrive.
He said the focus on Project S.H.I.N.E, as the strategic framework guiding Edo State’s transformation, provides lawmakers with a clear development roadmap that can be translated into enabling legislation, robust oversight and constituency-focused representation.
Dr. Ahamioje stated that his aspiration to represent Esan South East Constituency is rooted in these same principles, stressing that the legislature must actively support governance reforms through people-oriented laws, vigilant oversight of public expenditure and constructive engagement with the executive arm.
According to him, an effective House of Assembly must not operate in isolation but work in synergy with the executive and the civil service to ensure that policies passed into law deliver real benefits to citizens at the grassroots.
He expressed confidence that Governor Okpebholo’s performance-driven approach will raise governance standards across all arms of government and provide legislators with the institutional clarity required to discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively.
Dr. Ahamioje reaffirmed his commitment to championing legislation that promotes accountability, strengthens public institutions and accelerates development in Esan South East, noting that leadership must ultimately be judged by its ability to improve lives.
He concluded that Edo State stands at a critical point in its governance evolution and that lawmakers who align with the administration’s reform agenda will play a vital role in translating policy vision into lasting social and economic progress for the people.
