January 22, 2026 – The Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, held a strategic meeting with the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, in Abuja on Thursday, discussing a transformative vision for the aviation sector in Edo State and across Nigeria.

The high-level engagement focused on the proposed Edo Air initiative, a flagship project of the Edo State Government aimed at enhancing the state’s aviation ecosystem, boosting air connectivity, stimulating economic activity, and attracting investment opportunities.

Governor Okpebholo described the meeting as a key step in his administration’s broader economic development agenda. “These engagements are part of our efforts to drive growth, improve connectivity, and unlock new opportunities for Edo State,” he stated. The Governor further emphasized Edo State’s ambition to become a regional hub for business, logistics, and tourism.

“The establishment of Edo Air will significantly enhance economic activity, improve tourism, and provide reliable and efficient transportation for our citizens and investors,” he added.

Minister Keyamo welcomed Governor Okpebholo’s vision, recalling Benin City’s historic role in Nigeria’s aviation sector through the defunct Okada Air. He expressed his support for the Edo State Government’s efforts to revive the state’s aviation legacy, noting that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s goals of strengthening regional connectivity and driving economic growth through aviation.

The Aviation Minister assured the Governor of the Federal Ministry’s full backing, highlighting that a state-supported airline could enhance passenger movement, boost trade, attract investment, and create employment, particularly for young Nigerians.

Governor Okpebholo expressed appreciation for the Minister’s commitment, describing federal support as critical to the success of Edo Air. “We are encouraged by the Federal Government’s willingness to partner with Edo State on this important project. Together, we will build an aviation system that supports growth, tourism, and regional development,” he said.

The meeting underscored the strong collaboration between Edo State and the Federal Government in promoting infrastructure development, economic transformation, and national connectivity.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, PhD, confirmed the discussions and described the engagement as a pivotal milestone for Edo State’s aviation ambitions.
