Benin City, Wednesday, 14 January 2026 — Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection, public health, and responsible governance with the inauguration of the Edo State Environmental Compliance Corps (EECC).

The Governor inaugurated the Corps, comprising 100 personnel, as part of a strategic effort to strengthen enforcement of environmental laws and promote sustainable environmental practices across the state.
Represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Emmanuel Okoebor, Governor Okpebholo charged members of the Corps to discharge their duties with courage, integrity, professionalism, and a deep sense of purpose. He urged them to ensure that their actions inspire compliance, their conduct earns public respect, and their service strengthens trust in government institutions.
“The inauguration of the Edo State Environmental Compliance Corps today reaffirms this administration’s commitment to environmental protection, public health, and responsible governance,” the Governor stated. “A clean environment is not only a social necessity but also an economic imperative that supports productivity, attracts investment, and enhances the overall well-being of our people.”
He further emphasized the importance of community engagement, noting that the Corps must work closely with residents to promote environmental awareness and compliance with existing laws.
“I formally inaugurate the EECC and charge you to serve with courage, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose. Let your actions inspire compliance, your conduct earn respect, and your commitment strengthen public trust,” he added.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Hon. Nosa Adams, explained that the 100 officers constitute the first batch of the EECC. He disclosed that the personnel were selected through a credible and transparent process and underwent an intensive four-day training programme focused on the enforcement of the Edo State Environmental Waste Management and Pollution Law.
According to him, the law—recently assented to by Governor Okpebholo—is comprehensive and addresses all aspects of environmental protection and ecosystem sustainability in the state.
“The inaugurated EECC personnel will be deployed across the three Senatorial Districts of Edo State to ensure strict enforcement of environmental laws,” Hon. Adams said. “To effectively implement these laws, we require officers who are knowledgeable, disciplined, and committed to ensuring compliance.”
He expressed confidence that full implementation of the law would result in a healthier, cleaner, and greener Edo State.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Edo State, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, who noted that the inauguration of the EECC marks a significant milestone in the Okpebholo administration’s environmental sustainability agenda.
