Chief Dr. Thomas Attah, a detribalised personality, renowned business mogul, humanitarian, phenomenal grassroots mobiliser, and the Ekpen of Ekpoma Kingdom, has expressed deep sympathy with the Onojie of Ekpoma, His Royal Highness Zaiki Bar. Anthony Abumere II, following the recent attack on the royal palace by angry protesters.
In a strongly worded statement, Chief Dr. Attah condemned the invasion of the palace in its entirety, describing the act as unfortunate, regrettable, and unacceptable. While acknowledging that peaceful protest remains a fundamental constitutional right in a democratic society, he stressed that such actions must never degenerate into violence, looting, or vandalism of public and private property.
According to him, the palace of the Onojie represents not only a symbol of traditional authority but also the cultural heritage, unity, and identity of the Ekpoma people, which must be protected at all times. He called on youths and residents to always channel grievances through lawful and peaceful means.
Chief Dr. Attah also extended heartfelt sympathy to shop owners along Barracks Road in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, whose businesses were razed by fire in the early hours of Monday. He described the incident as devastating, noting that many families have lost their sources of livelihood and are now faced with economic hardship.
In the same vein, he expressed compassion and solidarity with the families of victims affected by the recent fire outbreak, as well as those whose loved ones have been kidnapped in the area. He called for collective empathy, support, and prayers for all affected families, urging community members and relevant stakeholders to rally around them during this difficult period.
Commending the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Chief Dr. Attah lauded his swift intervention and commitment to rebuilding the burnt shops along Barracks Road. He described the governor’s promise as a demonstration of responsive and people-oriented leadership, noting that the initiative would help restore livelihoods, stimulate economic activities, and rebuild hope within the community.
Chief Dr. Attah further applauded Governor Okpebholo’s recent decisive actions in tackling insecurity across Ekpoma, Esanland, and Edo State at large. He praised the governor’s courage, political will, and proactive approach to safeguarding lives and property, describing it as a clear indication of leadership driven by compassion, responsibility, and accountability.
He concluded by calling for unity, calm, and cooperation among residents, traditional institutions, and government authorities, emphasizing that sustainable peace, security, and development can only be achieved through collective responsibility, mutual respect, and lawful engagement.
Chief Dr. Attah reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to peace, love, and the progress of Ekpoma Kingdom, Esanland, and Edo State as a whole.
