Ekpoma, Edo State | January 12, 2026
The Lucky Eseigbe Solidarity Movement (LESM) has commended the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his swift intervention and firm commitment to rebuilding and restocking shops destroyed by criminal arsonists in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The affected shops, located along Barrack Road, Eguare Ekpoma, were recently razed by fire following what authorities have described as a criminal act of arson, leaving many traders devastated and without means of livelihood.
During a visit to the scene, Governor Okpebholo expressed deep sympathy with the victims and reassured them of the state government’s resolve to restore their businesses and dignity. Addressing traders and community members, the governor announced an immediate recovery plan.
“By this Friday, we will commence the rebuilding of shops burned by criminal arsonists and support affected traders to restock and reopen,” Governor Okpebholo stated.
Members of the Lucky Eseigbe Solidarity Movement described the governor’s visit as timely, compassionate, and reflective of responsive leadership. According to the movement, the governor’s actions go beyond words, demonstrating genuine concern for grassroots traders and the economic wellbeing of Esan West communities.
In a statement issued on Monday, the movement praised Governor Okpebholo for personally visiting the affected area, engaging directly with victims, and making concrete commitments aimed at restoring hope and economic stability.
“The decision of Governor Monday Okpebholo to not only visit the site but to announce immediate rebuilding and empowerment of the affected shop owners is a clear demonstration of people-centered governance. This intervention will help traders bounce back stronger and prevent long-term economic hardship,” the statement read.
Beyond the reconstruction effort, the Lucky Eseigbe Solidarity Movement also applauded Governor Okpebholo for his proactive and strategic approach to addressing security challenges across Esan land. The group noted that the governor’s security strategy—anchored on enhanced intelligence gathering, strengthened inter-agency collaboration, and community-based security engagement—has begun to yield positive outcomes.
According to the movement, the restoration of peace and safety remains critical to the survival of businesses and the protection of lives and property. The group emphasized that the governor’s firm stance on security has helped to rebuild public confidence and create an enabling environment for economic activities across Esan West Local Government Area and the wider Esan region.
Residents of Eguare Ekpoma also expressed appreciation for the governor’s prompt response, describing it as a rare demonstration of empathy and decisive leadership in a moment of communal distress.
The Lucky Eseigbe Solidarity Movement further urged security agencies to intensify investigations to ensure that perpetrators of the criminal arson are identified and brought to justice, while calling on residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as rebuilding efforts commence.
As reconstruction work begins, stakeholders and community members have expressed optimism that the governor’s intervention will not only restore livelihoods but also reinforce the state government’s commitment to protecting citizens, strengthening security, and promoting sustainable development across Edo State.
