Vice President, Service Chiefs Lead Armed Forces Remembrance Day 2026 Juma’at Service in Abuja

Abuja, Jan. 9, 2026 — The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, on Friday led Service Chiefs, senior military officers and top government officials to the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day 2026 Juma’at Service held at the National Mosque, Abuja.

The solemn service formed part of activities marking the annual Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, dedicated to honouring the bravery, loyalty and sacrifices of officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces, especially those who paid the supreme price in the defence of the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Among the senior military leaders in attendance were the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, NAM; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; and a representative of the Chief of Air Staff. Also present were Heads of Security Agencies, Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Service Headquarters, and other senior government officials.

The Juma’at service featured special prayers and moments of reflection for fallen heroes, as well as supplications for the safety of serving personnel and the continued peace, unity and security of Nigeria. It also provided an opportunity to reaffirm national appreciation for the professionalism, resilience and commitment of the Armed Forces in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

Also in attendance was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdulazeez Musa Yar’Adua, alongside other distinguished guests, all united in paying tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes and demonstrating continued support for the Armed Forces.

The Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day remains a significant national observance, serving both as a moment of collective remembrance for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and as a reaffirmation of Nigeria’s enduring respect and gratitude to its military personnel.
