Delta Police Redeploy Jesse DPO, Order Investigation Over Alleged ₦2.5m Extortion

The Delta State Police Command has ordered the redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, following allegations of extortion involving the sum of ₦2.5 million.
The decision follows the circulation of a viral video in which a woman accused the DPO and two other officers—identified as Constable Bright and an officer named Usman—of extorting money from her with the promise of securing the release of her brother, who is currently in police custody.
In a press briefing issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Delta State Command, SP Edafe Bright, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, ordered immediate administrative and investigative actions after reviewing the allegations.
According to the police, the incident originated earlier this month when the youth leader of the Jesse community arrested some suspects and handed them over to the Jesse Police Division. Among those arrested was a 20-year-old man, later identified as Israel Onojeruo, the brother of the woman featured in the video.
Police sources disclosed that Onojeruo’s arrest followed a confession by another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who allegedly stated that he sold a firearm to him. The suspects were subsequently transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for further investigation.
However, following allegations of extortion against officers of the Jesse Division, the Commissioner of Police directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of X-Squad to investigate the matter thoroughly.
