Two-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Well in Kano

Kano, Nigeria — Tragedy struck Kwankwaso town in Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State on Wednesday afternoon when a two-year-old boy, Sa’idu Ahmad, drowned after falling into a well.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.
According to Abdullahi, the Fire Service received a distress call at about 12:15 p.m. from the Deputy Director of the Service, Rabiu Garba, reporting that a young child had drowned in a well.
“Upon receiving the emergency call, our rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene,” Abdullahi said.
He explained that the child was retrieved from the well unconscious and subsequently handed over to the police at the Madobi Division. The victim was identified as Sa’idu Ahmad, aged two.
Abdullahi added that the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation by the relevant authorities.
The tragic incident has left the local community in mourning and has once again drawn attention to the dangers posed by uncovered or poorly secured wells, particularly to young children. Authorities have urged residents to take preventive safety measures to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
