Hon. Odianonsen Okojie Commends INEC as Continuous Voter Registration Reopens, Urges Citizens to Strengthen Democracy

Urbanscoopnews reporting

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the second phase of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, a development welcomed and strongly supported by Honourable Odianonsen Okojie, who has reiterated the importance of active citizen participation in Nigeria’s democratic process. The registration exercise is scheduled to run from 5 January to 17 April 2026, operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at designated INEC registration centres nationwide and via the official INEC online portal.

Hon. Odianonsen Okojie described the reopening of the CVR as a critical step toward deepening democratic inclusion, noting that it provides fresh opportunities for eligible Nigerians to secure their right to vote. The exercise is open to citizens who have attained the age of 18 and are yet to register, as well as registered voters seeking to transfer their voting centres due to relocation, update personal information, or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

According to Hon. Okojie, a credible electoral process begins with an accurate and inclusive voter register. He emphasized that widespread participation in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise is essential to ensuring that the voices of citizens are fully represented in future elections. He further urged eligible voters not to delay their registration until the closing period, advising early participation to avoid unnecessary challenges and overcrowding at registration centres.

In support of grassroots engagement and accessibility, assistance and guidance have been made available within Esan North East and Esan South East constituencies to help residents navigate the registration process and locate the nearest INEC centres. This initiative aligns with Hon. Odianonsen Okojie’s longstanding advocacy for civic awareness, political participation, and democratic accountability at the community level.

The reopening of the Continuous Voter Registration underscores INEC’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s electoral framework and ensuring that no eligible citizen is disenfranchised. Hon. Odianonsen Okojie has therefore called on all qualified Nigerians to seize this opportunity, register promptly, and prepare to exercise their civic duty.

He concluded by reaffirming that the ballot remains the most powerful instrument for shaping leadership and governance, urging citizens to stand ready to decide the nation’s future through peaceful and active participation in the democratic process.
