The Federal Government has commenced construction work on the long-awaited 105-kilometre Maiduguri–Monguno Road, marking a major milestone in efforts to improve infrastructure and restore socio-economic activities in Northern Borno State.
The first phase of the project, covering an initial 30-kilometre stretch, has been awarded at a cost of ₦21 billion. Contractors are already fully mobilised on site, with visible construction activities underway, signalling renewed confidence in the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructural development in the North-East region.
The road project is being executed under the supervision of the Minister of Works, Senator (Engr.) David Nweze Umahi, CON, and forms part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises strategic infrastructure as a catalyst for national growth, security, and economic recovery.
Once completed, the Maiduguri–Monguno Road is expected to significantly ease the movement of people and goods, improve access to remote communities, and strengthen security operations in an area that has long faced mobility and logistical challenges. The improved connectivity is also projected to stimulate trade, agriculture, and other economic activities across Northern Borno, fostering sustainable development and social stability.
For residents and stakeholders in the region, the commencement of construction represents more than a road project—it is a symbol of renewed government presence, reassurance, and a step toward lasting peace and prosperity.
The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring timely completion of the project in line with required engineering standards, as part of broader efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps and promote inclusive development across Nigeria.
