The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto has upheld the death sentence imposed on Farida Abubakar for the murder of her ex-husband, Chief Magistrate Attahiru Muhammad-Ibrahim. The appellate court affirmed the decision of the lower court, dismissing her appeal for lacking merit.
Farida Abubakar approached the Court of Appeal following her conviction and sentencing, expressing dissatisfaction with the judgment of the trial court. The appeal, marked CA/S/75C/2025, was heard by the Sokoto Division of the court in a case titled Farida Abubakar vs. The People of Kebbi State.
In its ruling, the court held that the prosecution had sufficiently established the offence against the appellant beyond reasonable doubt. The panel of justices found no legal or factual basis to interfere with the judgment of the lower court, noting that the trial was properly conducted and the evidence duly evaluated.
The court further ruled that the arguments advanced by the appellant failed to discredit the findings of the trial court or justify a reversal of the conviction or sentence. Consequently, the appeal was dismissed, and the death sentence earlier passed on Farida Abubakar was upheld.
