Residents, traders and motorists along the Ikpoba Hill and Ramat Park corridor in Benin City have commended the Edo State Government for the ongoing construction of the Ikpoba Hill Flyover, describing the project as a transformative intervention that will enhance traffic flow, boost economic activities and improve the city’s urban outlook.

The flyover, the first of its kind in Edo State, is being constructed under the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo as part of his government’s broader infrastructure renewal agenda.

Speaking during separate interactions with journalists, residents expressed optimism that the project would address longstanding traffic congestion and stimulate commercial growth in the area.

Mr. Lawrence Agwanhima noted that the flyover would significantly improve both mobility and aesthetics around Ikpoba Hill.

“The project will improve the economy of this environment and also enhance the beauty of the area. Before now, movement here was very difficult, but this flyover is a welcome development. The governor should continue the good work,” he said.

Responding to concerns about possible misuse of spaces beneath the bridge, Agwanhima dismissed such fears, stressing that similar challenges existed before the commencement of the project and should not be used to discourage critical infrastructure development.

Mrs. Ese Juliet, a resident and trader, said the flyover would provide lasting relief from the heavy traffic often experienced along the Ikpoba Hill axis, particularly during market days.

“There is always traffic on this road, especially on market days. With this bridge, traffic will reduce. My advice to the government is to ensure timely completion and also consider expanding the road so congestion does not return,” she said.

A fresh chicken seller at Ramat Park, Master David Okhaishebor, described the flyover as an innovative initiative that would ease movement and improve business operations in the area.

“This flyover is a good idea. We thank the governor for this innovation. Traffic will reduce and cars, Keke and other vehicles will move freely. It will also help if the bridge is properly fenced to prevent misuse of the space underneath,” he added.

Mr. Chijioke Akaru, a pharmacist who has operated at Ramat Park for more than three decades, said the project would have a far-reaching positive impact on the state’s economy.

“The flyover will reduce traffic at Ikpoba Hill and improve economic activities in Edo State. I have been here for over 30 years and I know how traffic congestion has affected businesses in this area. This project is commendable,” he stated.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Ebojele Akhere Patrick, the Ikpoba Hill Flyover is a flagship infrastructure project of the Okpebholo administration, designed to ease traffic congestion, enhance economic productivity and modernise Benin City’s urban infrastructure.

He assured residents that the state government remains committed to delivering the project on schedule while ensuring quality standards that will support sustainable development across Edo State.

As construction progresses, residents have continued to express confidence that the flyover will significantly improve mobility, attract investment and contribute to long-term economic growth in the state.
