2024: KCCN stages final training programme, graduation

The Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria (KCCN) has held a graduation ceremony for 12 students who completed a three-month training programme in taekwondo.

The ceremony took place at the KCCN office in Abuja, with family members, friends, and taekwondo enthusiasts in attendance.

Manager, Taekwondo Department, KCCN, Lee Hyerim, while decorating two new yellow belters, expressed delight at the increasing interest in taekwondo among Nigerians.

“It’s interesting to know that many Nigerians are really keen on enrolling in the sport. We’re really grateful, we thank you,” she said.

Lee Hyerim expressed hope that more people will take up taekwondo, leading to its growth in Nigeria.

“I hope more people will keep coming into the sports because it will really help it to grow more here in Nigeria as the skills, techniques and discipline are passed from person to person. The power and fitness taekwondo promotes is something else,” she said.Food and travel guides

Head Coach Taekwondo, KCCN, Coach Gbolahan Ogunmuyiwa, explained that the training programme followed a curriculum that addresses the instructional needs of each student based on their rank.

“The curriculum is designed to develop the students’ skills and techniques, as well as their physical fitness and mental discipline,” Coach Ogunmuyiwa said.

Coach Ogunmuyiwa further explained that the training program is structured to accommodate students of different ages and skill levels.

“We have a well-structured program that caters to the needs of our students, whether they are beginners or advanced learners. Our goal is to provide a supportive and challenging environment that allows our students to grow and develop their skills,” he said.

He also noted that the program is designed to promote physical fitness, mental discipline, and character development.

“Furthermore, taekwondo has helped me to develop greater confidence and self-assurance, which has had a positive impact on other areas of my life.

“My goal is to continue training and become a role model for other women and girls, inspiring them to take up taekwondo and experience its many benefits,” she said.

Mercy hopes to inspire more ladies to take up taekwondo due to its self-defense benefits, fitness, confidence, and empowerment.

“I plan to encourage others, especially ladies, to take up taekwondo. It’s essential for us to have self-defense skills, and taekwondo provides that.

“Additionally, taekwondo offers numerous physical and mental health benefits, including improved fitness, confidence, and overall wellbeing.

“I believe that every woman should have the opportunity to learn self-defense skills and experience the many benefits of taekwondo,” she said.

The KCCN regularly organises training programmes in Taekwondo and other areas, every quarter.

The centre hopes to continue promoting taekwondo in Nigeria just as it encourages more people to take up the sport.
