12 persons arrested in connection to cultism in Edo State
The Nigerian police have taken decisive action by arresting 12 suspected cult members in Edo State.
These dangerous individuals were found lurking in various criminal hideouts in Benin City.
The police have publicly released the suspects’ names, which include Ama Success, Odion Sunday, Elinana Omon, Famous Prosper, and Joseph Ikehinde.
Junior Uwadia, Cyrilic Omonhe, Charles Friday, Uyi Ewansiha, Ibrahim Abdumalik, Uyi Okogiewe, and Ogbonna Maduabuchi have also been taken into custody.
The Edo State Police Command received credible intelligence that suspected members of a secret cult were planning to cause chaos in different areas.
The suspects had gathered in a hideout at Oza Street under the Esigie Police Jurisdiction in Benin City, where they had already finalized their plans during a secret meeting.
The anti-kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit acted swiftly and arrested 10 suspects on the spot while two others were apprehended elsewhere in Benin City.
One of the suspects said, ” Yes the anniversary of our cult group is coming up and we are holding meeting to plan for the celebration . I joined the cult group in 2018″.
Another gang member was asked if there was any gain in joining a secret cult, and he replied, “I have not actually gained anything, but l am happy with the group”.
Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Dankwara, has directed that all secret cult zones in Edo state must be raided to arrest members of the cult group for prosecution.
According to the Police PRO, “There had been reported killings among some secret cult groups in Benin city lately and the police will not allow such killings to remain”.
The police are expected to charge all 12 suspects in court in due course.
